Small moves in Wilton Manors

Wilton Manors calls itself the Island City: forks of the Middle River wrap around most of it, so almost every way in or out is a bridge. Inside are mid-century ranch homes, many backing onto a canal, small apartment buildings and condos around Wilton Drive. Two movers and a Sprinter van for the apartment, the 1-bedroom, or the rooms you're moving.

What we plan around in Wilton Manors

  • Canal-front ranch homes. Many houses are mid-century single-story homes with a carport in front and the water out back. Furniture on a back patio or a dock usually comes out through a side gate: tell us how wide it is, or send a photo.
  • Wilton Drive apartments and condos. Buildings on and just off Wilton Drive have little or no loading space, and the street is busy in the evenings and on weekends. Tell us where a van can stop and what time the building allows moves, and we plan an earlier start.
  • Small two-story buildings. Apartments with outside stairs and a shared lot are common on the side streets. Tell us the floor; there are no stair fees.
  • Renovations. Older homes here get new floors, kitchens and impact windows. If rooms have to be cleared for the work and filled again afterwards, each trip is its own hourly job.

Bridges and routes

Because the river wraps around most of the city, most routes in and out cross a bridge, so the route matters as much as the distance. Andrews Avenue, Dixie Highway and Wilton Drive connect it to Fort Lauderdale to the south and Oakland Park to the north, and we plan the crossings with the time of day in mind. Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Lauderdale Lakes, Pompano Beach and the beach condos on A1A are short drives, and I-95 is just west.

There's no travel fee: billed time starts when the crew arrives at your first address, and the drive between your addresses is part of it. One van holds about 500 cubic feet, roughly a studio or a light 1-bedroom; for more, we'll suggest a second trip or a second crew (each crew: $195 for the first hour, then $165/hour). Wilton Manors questions

My furniture is on the back patio by the canal. Can you get it out?

Yes. Tell us the path from the patio to where the van can stop, whether it goes through a side gate or the house, and send a photo. The carry is part of the hourly time, with no extra fee.

I live in an apartment right on Wilton Drive. Where will the van park?

Tell us what the building allows: a loading spot, a side street or the lot behind. We'll plan the start time so the van isn't fighting evening or weekend traffic on the Drive.

Is there a minimum for a small move?

No. The first hour is $195 for 2 movers + the van, then $165/hour in 30-minute increments.

I only need movers, not a van. Is that cheaper?

It's the same price. The crew still comes in the van, because they need transport and the van carries all the moving equipment: dollies, pads, straps and tools.
